Phenoxyethanol

A colorless liquid, phenoxyethanol is very convenient to incorporate into cosmetic formulations. It is soluble in both oil and water, is easily and uniformly dispersed througout the formulation, and may also act as a solvent for other solid powder preservatives. Its antimicrobial activity is broad spectrum so it is effective against a wide range of microorganisms, which includes gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, yeast, and molds.

INCI: Phenoxyethanol

Use: It can be incorporated either before or after emulsification but at temperatures not exceeding 80°C as prolonged heating should be avoided to prevent loss by evaporation. Recommended use is 0.6 - 1.0% in cosmetic formulations.

Applications: Creams, lotions, shampoos, conditioners, liquid soaps, moisturizers, sprays, facial wipes.

Storage and Handling: For external use only. Store in a tightly capped container, away from heat.
